Sorry for the delay in blogging.  Have scanner, will blog!! These photos are part 2 of big hair, some crazy clothes and more cousins!! I hope it brings a little smile to your face! And hopefully a big laugh to the younger generation.
Remember when? Having perfect big hair was required for even knitting?

I'm just speechless...

So skinny in those peasant outfits!

Peace brother.

Who dressed me?

Love the checks - back in style now by the way!

BIG HAIR, blog 1 & What is Family? by Lee

Yes, this is the Big Hair blog number 1 because there is still more to come. (My scanner crapped out so I couldn't scan the others that I found, ha ha.) I hope you enjoy this array of beautiful hair!

I have a feeling the big hair contest winners might be Norene or Lee.  I don't have many of Auntie Helen so if you have any big hair photos please send them to me and I will post them.

Here is a poignant definition of family sent to me by Auntie Lee

FAMILY

What is a Family????

Family are people in your life who you may be related to by blood, marriage or choice...

Often for a life time (yours or theirs)

People who you hold dear and would generally  do anything to help them when needed.....

---- including making personal sacrifices for
and whom you generally agree to accept NO MATTER WHAT

They may be someone you see daily or infrequently but, the bond remains, and stands the test of time, distance and overrides almost any  challenges, acceptance, tolerance and appreciation!

HERE'S THE PLAN, so far

Hi All,
I have had a few questions about the plans so far for the Reunion Event. The invitation will go out shortly but here are some of the details:

LOCATION: Garrison Curling Club (thanks Auntie Norene for securing this venue for us!!)

TIMES:
  • Saturday, July 29th gathering, dinner and variety show - 4 pm start
  • Sunday, July 30th - family games and prizes - noon start (inside and outside at the Curling Club, there is a big green space right beside the club)
  • Curling Club will be open all day Saturday for families to gather at their leisure

FOOD:

A hugh thank you to the aunties who are going to work hard in their kitchens to create a buffet for us!! You are amazing!!

The buffet will include traditional Friesen family food like VERANIKA (I stand corrected, thank you Floyd!), CABBAGE ROLLS, PLUMMAMOUSE (who knows how spell that??) and lots of other good food like home made chile, cakes etc.

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • A family song is being written and produced by Auntie Lee (Can't wait to sing it!!)
  • All blog photos will be put on a disk for families to take home with them
  • We are trying to obtain the army records of Grandpa Henry's service in WWII
  • Family photos will be taken (thank you Klaus!)
  • A silent auction (items yet to be determined)
  • Photo albums to look through
  • Oh, and did I mention VERANIKA, with Grandma's sour cream sauce?

Cost for the whole event: $20 per person or $60 per family*
* does not include alcohol, but alcohol drinks are available at the club

I will look into campgrounds and hotels near the curling club and get that out with the invitation. I hope to have the invitation out in the next few weeks.

WATCH FOR FUTURE BLOGS:
  • Big Hair
  • Grandpa Henry's Parents
  • Renata
  • Grandma's houses, before and after

Agatha's Parents

This is Agatha's parents John T. Neufeld and Agatha Neufeld (Dueck), my great grandparents. They were married in July of 1899 and had eight children, of which young Agatha was the baby born on March 11th, 1915.  Unfortunately John, who was born on Feb 15, 1873, died in July 1915, just after Agatha was born. So her Dad passed away at the age of 42 and I don't know why he died so young. Mother Agatha was born on Dec 27, 1880 and was 67 when she passed away in 1947.

Thank you very much to cousin Len Friesen who sent me these photos and the one of young Agatha in the sun glasses. We appreciate seeing our ancestors!!

Stay tuned for the next blog (maybe next week) when I will be running a contest called Who's that baby?? There may be prizes!!

Happy January Blizzard (to those of us in Alberta!) BRRRR, I'm staying in tonight!
